History

Evergreen’s origins date back to 1859 when a close-knit group of families settled here to form a ranching community. It didn’t take long for residents of Denver to discover Evergreen’s beauty and begin to build their summer homes and hunting cabins in the growing mountain town. Soon, Evergreen became a desirable retreat from the pace of the city.

Today Evergreen retains the “close-knit” feeling among its residents. It is a community where folks know each other, look out for each other, and pull together to accomplish great things. Located just 40 minutes from Denver and an hour from Boulder, Evergreen continues to be a retreat for residents from “down the hill.” When stepping onto our Main Street boardwalk, visitors embrace the eclectic vibe of our shops, restaurants, and galleries, mostly nestled below unique pink cliff walls or just a stone’s throw from the creek.

Our walkable downtown district extends from the Evergreen Lakehouse to Main Street, along Bear Creek to the Highland Haven Creekside Inn, and to the businesses along Meadow Drive. Evergreen offers miles of hiking and biking trails easily accessible from downtown. Our community celebrates the arts as home to the Evergreen Players, Ovation West Performing Arts and the Center for the Arts Evergreen, and our live music venues feature local and regional performers. When it comes to doing business in Evergreen, our professional service providers deliver expertise and a warm handshake.

Whether coming to Evergreen for few hours, for the day, or to enjoy one of our special events, this mountain getaway is a destination that you will want to visit time and time again.
